-(your name)!- you can hear your friends calling for you from your hiding spot in the bushes. You were playing hide and seek and you were the last left to be found. Unlike the other three you always chose the best hiding places leaving them look for you with hours. But in the end they somehow found you. As you thought they will give up the branches above you moved and you slowly lift your head up meeting eye in eye with Malik.
-Found you! - He grins, which made you pout disappointed you were discovered. It was always him to find you. As you came out your hiding place Altair and Kadar came over running. You can say they weren’t too far when Malik found you. They both looked relived they finally found you. As do Malik himself. As you brushed your clothes off of the dirt as much as you can, Malik shoved his finger in your face.
-You are not so smart after all, hiding at so obvious place- he teased you like usual. You knew he was doing it on purpose, but still you couldn’t help, but lost your nerves and shout back at him.
-Oh yeah? Well at least I can hide better than any of you. That means one day I’ll be better assassin than the three of you- you yelled, pointing your finger at the three boys in front of you. Malik narrowed his eyes at you now taking it seriously.
-Is that a challenge? - He snapped at you, bending forward. His gaze was focused right on you.
-Yes it is- you snapped back, clenching your fists. Then you turned your backs at each other and walked opposite ways, leaving behind amused Altair and perplexed Kadar.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
-What that supposed to mean? - You yelled, your voice filling the morning silence surrounding the fortress. You yet again had another fight with Malik. As you grow up and became part of the brotherhood along with Altair and Kadar, your friendship turned in a rivalry. You two always competed for something. And now everyone are looking at you as you drag too much attention to yourselves.
-You heard me. I’ll take all the decisions, because all you do is causing trouble every time we go on a mission- he yelled as laud as you did, your foreheads bumping together while you had a glare contest.
-Are you trying to say I am a nuisance? - You hissed clenching your fists. Both of you are send on a mission together and you already were in the middle of crossfire. You honestly prefer to go with Altair or Kadar than to be stuck with this jerk.
-Will you two for once stop arguing? You guys sound like a married couple - Altair walks up to you from down the hallway. You and Malik looked up at him frowning at the same time. He sure chose the perfect timing to interfere.
-Who ask you for your opinion? - Malik snapped at him, at which the other assassin lifts his hands in defense.
-Okay, okay! Geez Malik, you are such a drama queen- Altair rolled his eyes. He was already used to his temper and he doesn’t care much when the other ranted for hours until he is left out of breath. You honestly wish Altair to join you two so Malik would yell at him and forget about your existence for a while. As Malik was about to start another argument a loud and clear couching made all the three of you look over at the stairs to see Al Mualim standing there, arms crossed.
-Shouldn’t you two be on your way already? - He referred to you and Malik. You just glanced at one another for a brief moment, before looking away again. This will be one really long week.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
You were quiet as you and Malik ride through the field beyond Masyaf to your destination. So far you haven’t started another fight, which was good. You wanted to say something just to get rid of the awkward silence between you two. But still you didn’t know what to say to him, aware it probably will end with another argument. Suddenly he stopped, gesturing for you to do the same. You yanked the reins of your horse, looking at him confused. He placed a finger on his lips, pointing straight ahead. You can see light in the distance, between the trees. Malik slip off the horse and you do the same, quietly following him as both of you made your way to the spot where the light was coming from. When you got closer you could hear voices too and by the sound of it they were foreigners. That meant only one thing- you cross path with the enemies. Both of you stop a few feet from a small clearing where a group of Templars were preparing a camp for the night. They didn’t look that many, so you had a chance to sneak around them unnoticed. You quickly glance at Malik, who was concentrated on scanning your surroundings for a safe possible way around the soldiers. You sighed almost without a sound, looking back at the Templars. You encountered with them only once before and it doesn’t end really well for you. A deep scare on your back reminded you of that accident no matter how hard you try to forget it. That was one of the reasons Malik was treating you like a child most of time, which annoyed you to the bottom of your live being. Malik unexpectedly tapped your shoulder startling you. You held to your chest as you glared at him confused. He rolled his eyes, pointing at a small path, rounding the Templars camp.
-We have to continue on feet, otherwise they’ll see us- he whispered going first, crouched lower to the ground so no one see him. You were right behind him, mentally cursing both him and those basters you need to hide from. While you crawled as silent as possible, you could hear part of a conversation between two soldiers. You stop for a moment to listen.
-I can’t wait to go home! This entire quest is pointless. Running after something we even don’t know if it exists- one of them groaned while he stretched his arms.
-I don’t like this either, but orders are orders and we are obligate to follow them- the other answer, taking a sip from the glass he was holding.
-What do you think it look like? That artifact I mean- the first one spoke again, looking at the other. The second one just shrugged not quite aware himself. You wanted to hear more, but someone pinched your shoulder, snapping your attention away from the Templars. Malik was right in front of you silently scolding you only by staring at you. You frowned and almost soundlessly mouthed “don’t give me that look”. Suddenly both of you heard rustling at your right, turning instantly to meet eyes in eyes with one of the soldiers, who was so drunk it took him a while to process you were there. But Malik doesn’t intend to give him time to think at all and quickly and skillfully jump on his feet; hidden blade cut the man’s throat. He holds on the bleeding wound, his eyes wide in shock, soon falling on his side in the dust. You watched the bleeding body for a moment, before rising on your feet to help him drag the dead Templar behind the nearest tree. He was a little too heavy then he looks and it took you a bit of an effort to hide him properly. Another rustling made your heart jump in fear you might get couched. Malik act on instinct and pulled you closer to him, hiding behind the tree trunk. Your face was buried in his chest, your cheeks flushing light shade of pink, but you quickly shock it away, listening to the sounds around you. Just then you noticed someone voices close by. Probably looking for his friend two more soldiers were now searching the area.
-It’s two of them- one for each of us- Malik whispered, while peeking at the Templers from behind the tree. Slowly he let go of you and step out your hiding place. You followed him as quiet as possible. But one of them saw you before you could approach them, abruptly turning around to face both of you.
-Assassins! - He screamed, pulling out his sword. His comrade does the same hearing him, leaving you no choice but to fight. You pull out your own sword in time to block a sudden attack from the soldier closer to you. He was too quick at swinging his weapon at you, giving you no chance to fight back. That’s why you only blocked his attacks. More soldiers came, attracted by the sound of clashing metal. You dodged your opponent blade, stabbing his side. Before he could attack you again you swing your sword, cutting his head off. Another one attack you from the back, but you turned in time to block him. It took you too much effort to defeat him, because he was huge and stronger than you. Malik was in the same position as you, trying to hold his opponents back. It was right then someone grab you from behind, preventing you from moving. You struggled helplessly, glancing in Malik direction for help. For your misfortune he was hit in the back of the head, when he turned towards you, then, passing out. You struggled even more desperate, but to no use. In a final attempt to free yourself you bite on your capture hand. He screams in pain, losing his grip around you. You instantly elbowed him in the stomach before stabbing him with your hidden blade between the eyes. Without bothering to pull your weapon out of his head you run over to Malik. You almost reach him when you were head right in the face, falling on your back. Everything happens so fast you had no time to process it. You blinked seeing everything blurry. Two figures stepped over you, one grabbing you by the shirt, lifting you up off the ground. Next thing you remember seems like someone fists obviously, because after that everything went dark.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
- (your name)! (your name), wake up!- you heard a familiar voice close to you. You slowly opened your eyes, your head hurting like hell. You tried move your hands, but right then realized they are tied up behind your back. You blinked the pain away, taking a look at your surroundings. You spotted Malik tied up next to you. He sighed in relive seeing you awake.
-Thank God, you are okay- he said with calm voice with slit hint of remaining worry. He probably was too proud to admit it, but he deeply cared about you. The same is with you- you have feelings for him, your senses deny. You moved your eyes from him to the other side of what seems to be a tent.
-How long are we here? - was the first thing that comes to your mind to ask. Malik frowned, rolling his eyes at your question.
-How should I know? I woke up a little while ago- he sounded more absent-minded than annoyed. You glanced at him again noticing he was trying to free his hands from the rope. You tried your own restraining to see if you could slip your hands through. As you pulled on the ropes someone entered the tent, the noise made both you and Malik look up. It was the general commanding this group of Templars. He stared at his captives with a smug grin on his face.
-Well, well, what do we have here! - he approached you, but kept his distance in case any of you try something- Two little rats sniffing around the camp. You assassins are like plague- you are everywhere, killing mercilessly.
-If we are treat for you, then why we are still alive? - The words came out of your mouth before you could realize it. It was typical for you to act or talk first, before you think. The General turned at your direction when you spoke. You can see he was surprised by your question.
-I am not planning to kill you yet. But I won’t hesitate to cut your limbs if I have a chance to- he pulled out his sword, pointing it at you. You gulped, feeling the tip of the blade touching your neck. Right then someone attacks him from behind, strangling him with the rope, his wrists were bound with. The General struggled to push him away, but Malik was strong enough to hold him in place. It doesn’t take long until the Templar stop moving completely. When he makes sure his victim is dead Malik let go of him, the body falling soundlessly in the dust. Thankfully their wrestling doesn’t attract any attention from the outside. Malik untied you as well, offering you his hand to help you up. You were surprised by his action, but accept the help anyway.
-You okay? - He asked while breathing heavily, sweat streaming down his forehead. You nodded, still rubbing your wrists. Malik peek out the tent seeing too much soldiers outside. He stepped away from the entrance, making his way to the back. He lifts the cloth up, crawling outside. You followed him carefully not to be heard or seen by the Templars. Both of you made it to the tent Malik was sure they keep your weapons. Waiting for the perfect moment you sneak behind the guards, cutting their throats. After pulling their bodies behind the tent, you entered inside and searched for your weapons and armor. It doesn’t take you that long to find them, but right then two soldiers entered the tent and saw you. They pulled their swords out, attacking you, but you and Malik kill them with few quick moves, dashing outside, where more soldiers attack you. They were to many for both of you to deal with them, so instead you climb two horses tied to a branch of the nearest tree, cutting the roars that hold them and ride off to the forest away from the Templars. After few minutes you lost them, stopping near a river. Both of you were tired, but Malik stays up the watch all night, letting you sleep. You didn’t know that, but he sits close to you the entire time, glancing at your sleeping figure at time to time, small smile crossing his lips.
This one came out longer, so I split it in two parts- before the events in the Solomon temple and after that. It took me forever to edit the story and finish it. The second part will have more romantic ditails than this one.
